Comparing about Current Transformer & Voltage Transformer

1. Structure
Usually, current transformer's primary winding only one or few turns, wound by thick lines, and is connected in series with the load of the measured current.
As a step-down transformer, voltage transformer's primary winding many turns, and is connected in parallel, consistent with the measured current load.
2. Working Principle
Current transformer secondary can cause a short circuit fault, but cannot be opened; while voltage transformer secondary can open a circuit, but cannot cause a short circuit fault.
In normal operation, the magnetic flux density of current transformer is very low. For current transformer, the short-circuit fault is caused by the primary side short circuit fault, current increasing make magnetic flux density to increase greatly, far exceeding the saturation value even. While of voltage transformer is close to the saturation value, and common faults make magnetic flux density reducing.
3. Function
Current transformer is used to ensure the stable & safe operation of the power engineering system. While, voltage transformers is to convert the high voltage into a regulated secondary working voltage of 100V or lower according to the proportion, and provide it to the relay protection equipment, metering equipment, and instrument panel equipment.
